Our sole living has always been made from cattle, and we have always said its pounds of calf that pay our bills. With the current economic situation we believe the trend will be towards low maintenance, efficient cattle that produce more pounds of calf in the fall. That is why Angus fit the bill around our place, we don’t have time to watch cow’s calve or wait for slow, dumb calves to mother up. We started our purebred Angus herd after seeing how well the cattle worked in our commercial herd.

Since we first started raising Angus cattle we have always been a performance recording herd submitting weaning, yearling, and more recently carcass data on our cattle. This has allowed us to gather generations of data that can be used to help make breeding decisions more accurately. We take the responsibility of raising seed stock seriously and believe that we need to provide our customers with the information they demand, it is up to them on a an individual basis to use what data they think is important to their own program. If you have any questions about any of the data please feel free to ask us.

When you buy a Wheeler bull you are buying a part of our breeding program. Our goal is to produce more than just your common Angus bull. We strive to produce Angus bulls with more muscle, performance, hair and better feet. Our goal is to add these traits while not sacrificing calving ease and maternal. We don’t select for single traits, we believe that balance between all traits is the key. Our herd bulls have each been specifically selected to add or improve traits in our herd, each is another piece of the puzzle. We have found by using our own herd bulls we have seen more genetic improvement consistently throughout our herd and this has allowed our customers to put together sire groups of bulls that will produce more consistent calf crops. Our herd bulls define our breeding program and are influencing the industry.

The feedback from our customers is that our bulls are working, and that they are seeing improvements in their herds in the traits that we are breeding for. If is very satisfying to know that we are meeting the goals of ourselves and our customers. Our list of repeat customers grows every year because our cattle work in the commercial cattle industry and the bulls are developed in a fashion that maximizes their breeding potential and longevity. We have also had several customers tell us that when it comes time to market their cattle they are easier to sell because other breeders recognize our name and associate it with quality.
