We are currently
working on a complete farm history so here is a current update
of what's happening.
2011 was a busy year for the Wheeler’s. We started off with the usual farm things, calving the first months of the year and our annual bull sale in March. When spring came around we started work outside, the new site that Michael and I set up a few years ago gets a little more added to it each year. This work included a garden which was abundent with zucchinni, tomatotes, carrots, onions, cucumbers, pumpkins and if the cows hadn’t gotten to it corn and sunflowers. I would like to take credit for how well the garden did, but Michael’s mom was really the driving force behind it’s success.
In the midst of July we were blessed with another baby boy, Tate Elliot Wheeler was born on July 11th and has been an overjoyus addition to our family. Luckily he came a week early as I headed out to BC for my best friends wedding, with two week old Tate in tow. Michael and Ty stayed home to host the group that came to our farm for the Canadian Red Angus Summer Tour the same weekend. Along with many other friends and family weddings this summer it was a very busy time.
This fall Ty started preschool one day a week in Clavet. It has been a great opporunity for him to play, learn and socialize with other kids. In October we packed the family, and cattle, up and headed to our first show & sale in Red Deer. However just before we left we recieved a call that my grandfather, Val Vaillancourt, had passed away. So upon returning we make a quick trip out to BC for the Celebration of Life Service and visit with family.
November, as many of you know, is when we do most of our cattle showing. There is not much to say, we went to Saskatoon and Agribition, which is in Regina. We had one of our best years ever showing and are very happy. But I would like the month of November back as not much else was accomplished it seemed.
Michael is still working from home doing Graphic Design for Bella Spur and managing the cow herd. I am still with the Saskatchewan 4-H Council, however have been on mat leave since the beginning of July. It has been great being at home with the boys and the farm. Ty is now three and half and is full of suprises for us everyday, we are amazed by him all the time. Tate is five months and a very happy baby, he loves cuddles and makes us smile so much.
We hope that you had a wonderful 2011 and wish you all the best in 2012.
